Microsoft Flight Simulator is a flight simulator program for Microsoft
Windows. It allows you to pilot a whole variety of past & present
aircraft in a realistic flight environment.
What is a Virtual Airline?
A virtual airline (VA) is an online organisation of Flight Sim
enthusiasts flying together in one community under one name. The idea
is to make your Flight Sim experience more realistic and enjoyable. A
virtual airline aims to mirror the operations of a real airline.
Why fly with a Virtual Airline?
Flying with a virtual airline gives you a new
dimension and purpose
to flying in flight simulator.
When you are flying in Flight Sim, being part of a virtual airline gives
you the realistic feeling that you are operating that flight in
a Fly UK aircraft for a reason.
You are operating a flight from an airline's
timetable rather than just flying the flight because you
feel like it, thereby increasing the
realism of your virtual flying experience.
It provides you with an opportunity to
meet and fly with like minded
enthusiastic people passionate about flight sim.
Does it cost anything to join?
Fly UK is completely free of
charge and always will be. Virtual airlines that charge are
simply ways for the owners to make a quick buck out of other
peoples hobbies. At Fly UK we feel that flight simulation is a
hobby that should be enjoyed with as many other people as
possible, both in terms of in the air and also the
community aspect.
What do I need to join?
A legal, working copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator
2004/FSX.
An Internet Connection and a valid email address.
Ideally a joystick, otherwise you'll find it hard landing a 737
with your keyboard!
How does it all work ?
Flying With Us - Register, Search & book a flight,
fly the flight and file a pirep!
Join Us -
To become a Fly UK pilot you will need to use the online
application form on the pilot careers page. Joining Fly UK is free of charge,
simply complete the online application form and we'll instantly send
you an email with your unique Fly UK pilot ID (for example UKV1212)
and access to our crew centre.
Your Rank -
As a new pilot at Fly UK you will be a Class E First Officer, which
means you can fly any flight that is operated by the Dash 8 Q400 or ATR 72 -500 aircraft.
You will also be able to fly the Class E UK
Regional tour. As your number of hours increase the
number of aircraft you can fly and the destinations you can fly to will
increase.
Downloads &
Resources - Before making your first flight you'll need to
download our aircraft packages. We also have a whole host of other
downloads and resources available to pilots including AI traffic
packs, links to charts, checklists, resource documents and videos.
Searching for Flights -
Simply search for a flight that uses an aircraft that your rank
allows you to fly! You can search for flights using
the 'Search For Flights' page.
Here you can use a number of different search features or a world
map to find a flight to fly. You can find out more about our operations
by browsing the pages located under the divisions menu.
Booking a Flight -
When you have found the flight you want to fly you will need to
book it. When you book a flight you will tell us if you plan to fly
online or offline and roughly what time of day you plan to fly.
Pre-Departure & Flight Dispatch - We provide flight
dispatch manifests for each flight which gives you various information that will
assist you in planning your flight. Once you have reviewed the
flight dispatch manifest you are
ready to open your flight simulator and fly. You can fly online on IVAO, VATSIM, Fly UK FSD or offline. Throughout the flight you will record information
(for example the time you leave the stand etc.) which you will need to input on the pirep straight
after your flight.
Filing a
Pirep - After you have flown your flight you need to file a pirep
for the flight. After your have filed your pirep your crew centre
homepage and logbook statistics will update instantly.
And those are the
basics - register, search for flight, book a flight, open your flight simulator and fly online or offline, then file the pirep!
